ON VIEW STEPS AWAY FROM MONTGOMERY BART IN DOWNTOWN SF

June 30 - Sept 19th

Sarang Byrne’s floral watercolor paintings are a modern exploration of emotion, movement, and color. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, she reinterpret florals through a contemporary lens—infusing each piece with a sense of fluidity and spontaneity that evokes feeling as much as form. Her paintings are created not only to be seen, but to be felt—adding depth, color, and a sense of presence to any environment.

Sarang Byrne was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She had the opportunity to attend public schools that allowed her the resources and opportunities to explore art. Encouraged by family and teachers from a young age, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. She now resides in San Francisco, CA. Her medium of choice is currently watercolor on paper.

ON VIEW:

“This watercolor painting of a bougainvillea, titled Home, is rooted in my early years in Miami. That bush stood in our yard—a quiet witness to moments that shaped me. Beneath its branches, My Mother and I dyed shirts with its petals and buried my first pet. The memories it holds are both tender and complex.

Emotional expression has never come easily to me, and I’ve often found myself turning to painting as a way to make sense of things I can’t quite put into words. This piece reflects that impulse—an attempt to process the past through color and shape, when clarity through conversation felt out of reach.

The scale of this work allowed me to stretch beyond the intimate and into the immersive. It became less about depicting a plant and more about honoring a feeling.

This piece is an offering—for anyone who’s felt something deeply and didn’t know how to say it. May it remind you that your emotions are worth expressing, in whatever way feels true.”
